Jack & Kristen: The Ring She Didn't Know She Was Designing

Jack & Kristen: The Ring She Didn't Know She Was Designing

Jack walked in with his parents and a costume ring. Not an heirloom, not a placeholder. Just a gold-toned ring Kristen had picked up somewhere and genuinely loved. Bezel-set, emerald-shaped, worn because she liked it, not because of what it cost. Jack had noticed. He tucked it in his pocket and brought it to Miller like a clue, and that was pretty much all Miller needed.

Side by side - the finished ring and the inspiration.

Jack had done his homework too. He knew he wanted an emerald or radiant cut in the 3-carat range, set in yellow gold. But the costume ring said more than any of that. It told Miller what Kristen was drawn to, what felt right on her hand. So Miller designed a 3.47-carat emerald-cut diamond flanked by two epaulette-cut side stones, all three bezel-set in 14-karat yellow gold. Clean, bold, and confident, without a single unnecessary detail.

A few weeks after Jack picked up the ring, he sent over photos from the proposal. A dock over open water, the sky wide and overcast, Kristen's hand raised to show off the ring that started as a clue in Jack's pocket and ended up exactly where it belonged.

Congratulations, Jack and Kristen! We couldn't be happier for you both.
