Turn of the Century 14k yellow gold, Essex Crystal, and mother of pearl hunt whip and dog brooch. Essex crystal, also known as reverse intaglio, were popularized in the Victorian era into the Edwardian era. The reverse intaligio were originally made from rock crystal cabochon that had been carved on the flat back side, where an image is carved in reverse and hand painted. In this piece of wearable art, hand painting brings to life a Boston Terrier backed in mother of pearl to enhance the three dimensional effect. The essex crystal is bezel-set at the center of the lovely hunt whip design in yellow gold.
