Victorian silver, 18K yellow gold, opal, garnet, and diamond necklace. One of the most captivating expressions of the Victorian serpent motif, this 18K yellow gold and silver snake necklace features a magnificently rendered head and tail in cobalt blue enamel, the head set with a glowing pear-shaped opal cabochon surrounded by rose cut diamonds and ruby-red garnet eyes that give the serpent a mesmerizing, almost living quality. The tail curves beneath, cradling a second round opal cabochon within its own diamond and blue enamel setting. Thirty-six Old Mine cut diamonds scatter across the enamel surface of both head and tail, catching light against the deep blue in a way that is genuinely arresting. The body of the serpent is formed by the necklace's articulated gold scale chain — flexible, substantial, and as beautifully made as everything else here. It comes in its original fitted box, a spectacular and rare piece of Victorian jewelry in extraordinary condition.
